Amparito Roca: Spanish Pasodoble for Euph/Tuba Octet

Amparito Roca was written in 1925 by Jaume Teixidor Dalmau while he was liiving in Horno de Alcedo (Valencia) and conducting the Banda Primitiva de Carlet. The piece premiered that same year on September 11 at the Teatro El Siglo in Carlet.It was dedicated to Amparo Roca Ibáñez (1912–1993), one of Teixidor’s piano students and a close friend of his daughter, María Teresa. Since its debut, the pasodoble has become one of the most iconic works in the Spanish wind band repertoire, frequently played in traditional festivals such as Fallas, the Moros y Cristianos, and Tarragona’s Baixada de l’Àliga, where it is regarded as anunofficial anthem.The piece also gained international recognition when it was featured during the closing ceremony of the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games as part of Spain’s cultural representation.
