- Top welding side layer is a 3mm thick dense layer of Pre Oxidized Carbon Fiber Felt. Center layer is 1mm of Fiberglass Mesh. Bottom layer is 1mm of soft Pre Oxidized Carbon Fiber Felt. Total thickness is 5mm .20 inches The benefit to having 3 layers is more protection and a longer life cycle.
- The top layer is thicker so it can absorb the heat from the welding debris before it has time to melt through the other two layers, the fiberglass mesh layer is the strength layer it is stronger than the carbon felt and helps to hold the blanket together it also gives the blanket one extra layer of protection, the final layer is designed to always be the backside so you will have a soft clean side to lay against the area that you are trying to protect.

- At 5mm's .20 inches thick and 950gsm this is a thick dense blanket giving you great protection from welding spatter and grindings. Weighing in at an average weight of 5.7 pounds it is still light and very flexible. The HFP 5mm blanket starts out as a 10mm thick blanket and we press it down to 5mm's thick this makes the blanket more dense, this process makes the carbon felt stronger and more resistant to welding damage it also helps the blanket hold together over time and abuse.
- Other standard carbon felt blankets are 3mm-6mm thick with a gsm of 550-700 and a average weight of only 2.3 - 4 pounds at 60X70 inches. The standard blankets are not very dense making them less resistant to weld spatter and grindings. When buying the 60x70 inch HFP blanket you are getting a average weight of 5.7 pounds per blanket of material almost twice as much material vs the standard carbon felt welding blankets, more material more protection.
